Sunday January 30 2022 was a momentous day for Holy Child Killiney as we lifted the Leinster Senior Cup for the first time in our history. The school community turned out to UCD in their hundreds to cheer the team on against Newbridge College. The team rose to the occasion, showing their skill, physical fitness, tactical awareness and incredible team bond to take the Cup home with a convincing 2-0 win.
The atmosphere in UCD was electric and a special mention must go the 6th Year cheerleaders who kept the crowd alive and singing from start to finish. The team wish to thank all the staff, students and alumni who came out to support and share in this special day. It was particularly nice to see Helen Buckley and Deirdre Mathews in attendance, both of whom have played a massive role in the development of hockey in the school and getting it where it is today. The whole school lined the grounds this morning as the team and trophy were welcomed home with a guard of honour, a fitting tribute to a squad who have shown enormous commitment and determination to making this success happen. Everyone is extremely proud of all involved, the day will live long in the memory of many.
The team will now represent Leinster in Kate Russell All Ireland Championships in Galway on 24th and 25th of March.
