HCK is looking to the future |
We were delighted and honoured to welcome Mrs. Carmel Naughton to Holy Child Killiney on May 8th to formally open our new STEM Classrooms, Hockey Pitch and our new disability access lift. Mrs. Naughton’s message of the wonderful positive changes that have occurred in girls’ education since her time at school but also recognising the challenges that still exist in some areas, was both inspirational and motivating. We are deeply grateful to Mrs. Naughton and The Naughton Foundation for so generously helping our girls to find their scientific curiosity in a stimulating learning environment and indeed for seeing the project right over the line to the official opening!
We were also delighted to welcome our donors whose generosity and commitment has been overwhelming, since we first started to talk about a new STEM facility in 2018, at which time we had no idea COVID 19 was around the corner. The unwavering support from our parents at that time while we recalibrated to a new economic reality in the construction industry, is what underlies the realisation of this new learning environment today. Adding a much-needed new hockey pitch into the mix was welcomed by our parents with enthusiasm, and our girls have rewarded us by playing out of their skins on so many important occasions, giving us and them memories for life.
Also in attendance was Mrs. Caroline O’ Brien, our former Principal who was the power behind this phase of our campus advancement, and Mrs. Ann Cuffe Fitzgerald, the Chair of our Board, alumnus, past parent and donor, whose expertise guided our project. The evening was hosted by Principal Hickey and it was a wonderful way to thank all our supporters and mark our achievements as a school community.
We continue our campus advancement with new Home Economics and Art spaces and brand-new tennis courts, coming this summer.
