A Message from Our Principal

Ms. Deirdre Hickey, Principal, HCK
Ms. Deirdre Hickey, Principal, HCK

Dear Members of the Holy Child Killiney Alumnae,

It is a privilege to write to you as Principal of Holy Child Killiney and to connect with the generations of women who have walked these corridors before our current students.

Since I arrived in September 2024, I have been inspired by the rich legacy of the SHCJ Sisters who founded this School in 1947. Their vision, rooted in the belief that every child is unique and precious and that education should nurture the whole person, continues to guide us today. My mission is to build on that foundation and create an environment in which every student can flourish and achieve her potential in an ever-changing and unpredictable world.

We live in extraordinary times. Artificial intelligence is reshaping the landscape of work and learning. The challenges our students will face demand not only academic excellence but also creativity, critical thinking, resilience and compassion. That is why our vision for Holy Child embraces both STEM and the arts and humanities, developing the competencies and skills that will empower our students to step confidently into adulthood and make a meaningful difference in the world.

You, our alumnae, are a vital part of this vision. Your experience, passion and connection to Holy Child can inspire and support the next generation in powerful ways. We are working to provide new spaces for Art and Home Economics, as well as additional teaching and learning rooms designed for modern pedagogy. We are also developing a new Strength and Conditioning centre. These spaces will enable the kind of collaborative, creative and student-centred learning that prepares young women for the future.

The engagement of our alumni in mentoring or supporting our students is always warmly welcomed and deeply valued. We would love to welcome you back to share your journey through careers talks, mock interviews, mentoring or as guest speakers. Whether you work in medicine, the arts, business, education, technology, or any other field, your story can inspire, motivate and open doors for our students, your insights are invaluable. If you are interested in supporting us, please get in touch with our Development and Alumnae Office (mharrison@holychildkilliney.ie). We look forward to staying connected with you.

With warm regards,

Deirdre
