HOCKEY
As the year comes to a close for our Hockey teams, our team captains have shared their thoughts below on the last couple of months. The girls have all put in massive effort in each and every training session and all teams made great strides as the season progressed. Our Senior 1 team led the way with a historic win in the league, our Junior 1 team were victorious in the plate, our Junior 2 team lost out in the semi final of the league and our Junior 3 team showed serious strength and depth at this age by just missing out on the league play offs. The Minor 1 team went all the way to the cup semi-finals and our 1st year teams enjoyed their first taste of competitive hockey in HCK colours as they played out their league campaigns. We are all looking forward to next season already!
1st Year ( Caroline Byrne + Elodie Robb + Sorcha Igoe + Maria Hayes Alvarado )
We have had a great time playing hockey in hck this term. We have all made some great memories with our teams and have learned so much from our league matches and our coaches. We love playing hockey at school and want to continue to do so next year as well
Minor 1 ( Laragh Coughlan + Emma O’Donovan )
Over the past term our Minor 1 team has been working really hard, and it has really paid as shown in all the matches on the lead up to the cup semi-final. The semis was a very tough match, and we fought till the end against foxrock and who are a very strong team, but unfortunately the match finished 4-2 ending our journey in the cup. The score did not reflect on our performance throughout the season. We were very happy to make it that far considering we didn’t win a single match last year. With great help from Jess and Alan we grew as a team, and we are so excited for next year.
Minor 2 ( Maia Martin )
My hockey team and I have been playing really well and improving every match. We’ve played a mix of friendly matches and league games, which have helped us build our teamwork and confidence on the pitch.
Minor 3 ( Zosia Smoczyc )
Unfortunately, our team did not have a great season, but we all worked really hard and have seen improvement and everyone’s looking forward to next season!
Junior 1 ( Annabelle Doody )
The Junior 1s had a great end to the season. We finished with a win in Three Rock in the plate final. The atmosphere was amazing and the support from 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th years made the match so memorable. After a tough start to the season losing to Mt Anville in the first round of the cup we showed how far hard work and perseverance can get you!
Junior 2 ( Annabelle MacGuinness )
The Junior B hockey team had a fantastic season this term, showing great teamwork, commitment and determination in every match. The team worked hard in training and continued to improve throughout the season, becoming a very strong side. We reached the semi-finals where we played Mount Anville. Although we lost 4–0, it was a great match, and the team showed great effort and resilience until the final whistle. Overall, it was a very successful season, and the team should be proud of their performances and the progress made throughout the year.
Junior 3 ( Hannah McClure )
The team progressed through our league this season but came just short of qualifying for the knockouts . We had a great season with lots of wins but unfortunately, we didn’t get any further than this. Next year!
Senior 1 ( Julie Potter Cogan )
The Senior 1s have had the most amazing season beating Wesley (the team that knocked us out of the cup) 1-0 in the premier league semi final and then going onto the final and winning 2-1 against St Andrews. We played some amazing hockey and kept our entire school of supporters entertained for sure!!! We made school history (it being the first time the school has ever made it to the premier league semi final let alone to go on and win it all) and have made so many memories together. We then went on to represent our school in the All Irelands in Armagh, coming 4th overall!
Senior 2 ( Emme Brennan )
Over the past few weeks, the Senior 2 hockey team has made great progress as we began the South Dublin League. Everyone has been working extremely hard both in training and during matches. The team has shown great determination, teamwork, and a positive attitude, with clear improvements in our skills and communication on the pitch each week. Although we are unfortunately now out of the league, the effort and commitment from every player has been excellent. The team should be very proud of the progress made and the hard work put in together!
