IWD2022 #breakthebias
Holy Child Killiney welcomed three past pupils to the school today to celebrate International Women’s Day 2022!
Ciara O’Brien, Class of 1996 spoke about her studies in Engineering subsequently moving into an investment banking career. Her determination to pursue studies in Maths and Science despite many discouraging responses in the wider work force was so inspiring.
Sarah Maguire, Class of 2011, told of her studies in Law and Human Rights which have led to her working in the Department of Foreign Affairs as Junior Diplomat. She reassured the girls that they are always good enough, that hard work is a given but it’s ok to fail, and to study and work in an area that you love, not one that is expected of you.
Finally Róisín Cure, Class of 1985, shared her story of following her dream and, after a circuitous route, ‘finding her tribe’ in the world of urban sketching and storytelling.
All three highlighted the role coming to Holy Child Killiney played in their lives and choice of careers. Specifically they outlined the values they received to live by in life, inspiring teachers who encouraged them to reach their potential, and enduring friendships. Our thanks to all three for speaking so encouragingly to our Junior and Senior students!
